Alexandra Pomatto on Exercising an Eagerness to Learn

Alexandra Pomatto

Through the Nasdaq Internship Program, we offer a variety of professional experiences for emerging talent through an immersive 10 to 12-week internship program. From Stockholm to the U.S., whether in person or remotely, we are getting an inside look at the bright minds and personalities that encompass the next generation of investors, disrupters and leaders.

In honor of the internship season, we spoke with Alexandra Pomatto, Corporate Platform Solutions Marketing Support Intern, about the importance of showing exercising eagerness and enthusiasm in the workplace.

Please tell us about yourself and your position at Nasdaq.

I’m an incoming senior at Chico State University pursuing a bachelor of science in Business Marketing and certificates in Sales, Analytics, and Communication. In my free time, you can find me concert-going, cooking, or watching comedy specials! I’m also very passionate about traveling and immersing myself in international cultures, which was a major driver in my interest in Nasdaq, given its global reach. Over the summer, I’ll be supporting the Nasdaq Governance Solutions Marketing Team through retention, growth, and content-oriented work.

What is your favorite project you’ve worked on thus far, or one that you’re looking forward to?

So far, I’ve spearheaded creating a process of consolidating our leverageable data. In doing so, I’ve learned about what statistics are most relevant for the various marketing sectors—growth, content, and retention—which has been very insightful!

What about Nasdaq stood out the most, now that you are part of the global team?

During our orientation process, one of our program coordinators, Seunghee, noted how much smaller the world seemed to her when she began working with an international team here at Nasdaq, which couldn’t be truer! The global collaboration present across all teams here at Nasdaq undoubtedly breeds innovation.

What is your goal as a #NasdaqFam intern? How is Nasdaq supporting your long-term goals?

Over the 10 weeks, my main goal is to learn! I’m so thankful for how much experience and perspective I’ve been able to gather during my time here, from the products to the people; I want to soak in as much as I can. Being a part of the Nasdaq fam supports my long-term goals through their encouragement to explore all types of various marketing roles over my summer to guide me in finding a niche!

What advice would you give to future interns?

Be eager to take on projects and tasks outside of your comfort zone! You’ll never learn more than when you’re pushing outside of what’s familiar to you—there’s no better time for trial and error than now!

How is Nasdaq preparing you to be the next generation of investors?

From vetting us with market knowledge through intern-oriented articles to financial workshop access, the educational skills at our disposal and encouragement to discuss fiscal responsibility amongst our peers truly set us up for success!

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I was a summer camp counselor for three years after being a camper myself since elementary school.

Intern budgeting 101: Do you have any tips for budgeting and managing finances out of college?

Yes! It’s more of a challenge than ever in our world of short-lived trends and fast fashion, but I try to be very diligent about only buying new clothing, etc., out of necessity and opting for second-hand options when I can. “The Paradox of Choice” by Barry Schwartz gives a neat perspective on the idea of meticulous spending. As Covid restrictions lessened, eating out and entertainment expenditures took a huge hit on my budgeting, so I’m strict on making coffee and cooking at home during the week to allow myself some more flexibility come the weekend.

What have you learned about yourself through this internship?

So much already! It’s been really fulfilling to gradually gather a sense of where my passions and interests lie and what’s important to me in a workplace, such as strong employee networks and an international reach.

How did you prepare for your internship?

I did some research on the products I’d be working with, Nasdaq Governance Solutions, and listened to Nasdaq’s Podcasts, World Reimaged and TotalMarkets, to better understand both the industry and company as a whole.
