    Providing options contracts tailored to meet the specific requirements of investors, Nasdaq Electronic Flexible Options (FLEX Options) are available on the Nasdaq PHLX (PHLX) and Nasdaq ISE (ISE).

    Nasdaq FLEX Options

    Nasdaq launched Electronic FLEX Options on Nasdaq PHLX (PHLX) and Nasdaq ISE (ISE), providing options contracts tailored to meet the specific requirements of investors, enabling market participants to have greater flexibility in responding to shifting trading environments. The launch marks a significant milestone in our commitment to innovation and providing tailored solutions for today's investors.  

    This functionality is available through our trusted partners Citadel Securities, DASH Financial Technologies, IMC, Jane Street Options and Wolverine Execution Services, who have already certified their ability to create these instruments, ensuring that clients receive reliable and customized derivative products.

    FLEX Options Features

    Nasdaq FLEX Options are option contracts that offer customized terms, including strike prices, expiration dates and exercise styles, providing greater flexibility beyond standard option contracts. Nasdaq PHLX (PHLX) and Nasdaq ISE (ISE) support trading FLEX Options through existing order entry protocols, trade drops and market data feeds. 

    Customizable Terms Supported for Electronic FLEX:

    Type of Option

    Choose between put or call options.

    Exercise Style

    Options can be American-style or European-style.

    Expiration Date

    You can specify any business day (to the exact day, month, and year) up to 15 years from the date the FLEX order is submitted.

    Settlement Type

    FLEX Index Options can be A.M. or P.M.- settled, while standard FLEX Equity Options are P.M.- settled.

    Exercise Price

    Set in increments as small as $0.01.

    Complex Orders

    The net price of a stock-tied complex order may be specified up to four decimal places.

    Type of Option

    Choose between put or call options.

    Exercise Style

    Options can be American-style or European-style.

    Expiration Date

    You can specify any business day (to the exact day, month, and year) up to 15 years from the date the FLEX order is submitted.

    Settlement Type

    FLEX Index Options can be A.M. or P.M.- settled, while standard FLEX Equity Options are P.M.- settled.

    Exercise Price

    Set in increments as small as $0.01.

    Complex Orders

    The net price of a stock-tied complex order may be specified up to four decimal places.

    Supported Securities and Exchange Participants

    Supported Securities on Electronic FLEX:

    • Nasdaq PHLX (PHLX) and Nasdaq ISE (ISE) support electronic FLEX Options for indexes, equities, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), including cash-settled ETFs.
    • IBIT options are also included in FLEX trading.
    • Nasdaq PHLX (PHLX) supports foreign currency FLEX Options.

    Creation of a FLEX Instrument:

    • A FLEX instrument will be created once a FLEX order is submitted through FIX and accepted by the exchange.
    • Large Exchange participants Citadel Securities, DASH Financial Technologies, IMC, Jane Street Options and Wolverine Execution Services are currently certified to send these orders, which are available for creation through their routing systems.
    • Any Nasdaq PHLX (PHLX) or Nasdaq ISE (ISE) Member may certify. In order to certify, firms must successfully complete the certification script by which they will receive a certification of completion letter and be able to use electronic FLEX functionality.
