Funimation, one of the US's premier anime distributors/streaming services is being acquired by Sony Pictures ( SNE ) for $143MN and a 95% stake.

Variety broke the news yesterday. The deal, which values Funimation at $150MN, includes licensing rights to their catalog of anime titles such as Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop, Attack on Titan, and hundreds of others. Funimation Founder Gen Fukunaga will retain a minority stake in the company and continue his role as CEO.

From the Funimation press release , it seems that very few things will change in the handover. Sony will be adding their 10,000+ hours of content to a roster that includes Animax (the largest anime TV network) and a slew of other entertainment content that spans across the globe.
