Emerson Electric Co. 's EMR Network Power business launched an upgraded version of its Liebert CW line of chilled water cooling systems.
The high-capacity models, which come in 340 kW and 440 kW capacities, offer better more efficiency and enhanced flexibility. The models with new configurations are available in North America.
These cooling systems can considerably reduce the cost of deployment and maintenance for larger data centers. The higher capacity Liebert CW systems can cut the number of units required in a data center by 62%. The new units also use up to 29% lesser white space.
Additionally, they involve much lower installation and maintenance costs when compared to the cost of using smaller units.
These new systems also cut energy consumption significantly, while maintaining reliability. They employ latest technologies, including valve auto-tuning controls and optimized coil designs that better utilize higher entering water temperatures, thus improving energy efficiency by up to 25 percent. This can translate into annual energy savings of about $150,000 for a 5-megawatt data center, when compared to the costs of using more number of smaller cooling units to achieve the same capacity.
Moreover, the cooling systems will also address the challenge faced by large data centers of balancing reliability and efficiency with the requirement for easily deployed capacity. They will enable large data centers to conserve energy and rapidly add capacity with reduced installation time and costs.
The Liebert CW boasts intelligent Liebert iCOMTM thermal controls which can monitor hundreds of unit data points and deliver unit-to-unit communications for teamwork and automating self-healing routines. This ensures superior protection and efficiency, thus getting a much faster payback for companies than any previous systems.
Emerson's Network Power segment has been grappling with contracted demand and adverse macroeconomic factors in recent times. However, recent order trends for data center infrastructure and telecommunications investments suggest improving conditions.
The segment's performance has likely bottomed, and looks set to build momentum on the back of healthy growth conditions in both data center and telecommunications investment markets. The newly launched Liebert CW line of chilled water cooling systems will broaden the company's offerings and enable it to capitalize on the growing market.
