Alphabet Inc.GOOGL owned Google has sealed a partnership with Box, Inc. BOX to bring Google Docs, Google Springboard and Box's productivity features on a single platform, facilitating a seamless work experience on the cloud.
Key Takeaways from the Alliance
Following the deal, Google's cloud technology will be integrated with Box's enterprise platform, thus enabling Box to serve as Google's third-party repository. In simple words, users will now be able to create and edit Google documents, spreadsheets and slides directly from Box.
In addition, Google will incorporate its Springboard enterprise search tool with Box, thereby allowing users to search information hosted in Google Apps like Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Drives and Contacts as well as on Box. Springboard is an A.I.-based digital assistance tool that can search across Google's app suite for particular information or documents.
According to Diane Greene, senior vice president of Google's cloud computing division, "On the apps side, we want our customers to have flexibility in their choice of tools and to have the most productive and collaborative suite possible for their needs. We're excited to partner with Box in our mutual quest to transform how companies work in the cloud."

Our Take
The move appears to be yet another attempt by Google to leapfrog competitors like Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN , International Business Machines Corporation IBM and Microsoft in the enterprise computing race. Competition in this space is building up quickly as big companies are increasingly shifting their computing operations to cloud.
The deal will open up opportunities for Box to expand its application suite and attract customers who use Google's productivity tools.
At present, Alphabet carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
