25 Years of Innovation
For a quarter century, Nasdaq eVestment has been at the forefront of institutional intelligence—empowering asset managers, consultants and financial intermediaries, as well as asset owners (spanning from family Offices and Pensions to Insurers, Sovereign Wealth Funds and beyond) with the data, tools, and insights to help drive more effective investment decisions. What began in 2000 as a pioneering manager database has evolved into a global platform that connects capital to opportunity through intelligent workflows, predictive analytics, and a continuum of innovation.
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’re not just looking back—we’re looking ahead. From seamless integration of AI technology to forging strategic partnerships with both an alliance of investment consultants and recognized technology leaders, to enhance our ability to service clients, the next chapter is already being written.
A Rich History Built on a Single Mission:
Connect Capital to Opportunity
From its origins as a digital database to its role today as a global platform for investment data, research and intelligence for thousands of asset owners, consultants and asset managers, here’s a look back at the milestones that defined the journey.
2000
A Platform Built for Transparency
At a time when institutional research was largely offline and opaque, eVestment - in partnership with an alliance of investment consultants - launched with a simple but ambitious mission: make manager data more transparent, more structured, and more accessible. What began as a searchable database soon became a daily workflow tool for consultants and asset owners to evaluate institutional investment managers.
2003–2007
Transforming the Institutional Landscape
As the platform gained adoption, it evolved into more than just a repository — it became an analytics engine. New capabilities enabled users to benchmark performance, run advanced screens, create reports, and streamline manager due diligence through a digital lens.
2007
Redefining Data Distribution
Since launching in 2007, Nasdaq eVestment’s Omni solution has helped asset managers streamline database marketing by combining technology and service to improve database population speed, quality, and confidence. Recent enhancements expand its capabilities to include qualitative data workflows, enabling clients to manage firm-, product-, and vehicle-level narratives, ESG and more—in one place. Today, our clients can manage and publish their content across 60+ databases.
With compliance-aware change tracking and intuitive AI tools, we can help teams respond faster to internal updates, reduce manual effort, and ensure consistency across databases. Expanded support for private markets also allows multi-asset class managers to consolidate efforts, saving time and elevating the clarity of their story across strategies.
2008–2012
Going Global
As the asset management industry became more global, so did eVestment. Offices opened in London, Hong Kong, and Australia, and data collection expanded into markets like South Africa. This expansion allowed the platform to serve institutional clients with a broader, more diverse view of manager coverage and investment opportunities. Today, we proudly serve institutional firms across 50 countries.
2011–2016
Expansion Into Alternatives, Analytics, and Investor Intelligence
The rise of hedge funds and private equity led to a shift in what institutional investors needed from their data providers. Through strategic acquisitions, eVestment expanded into alternatives data (Hedgefund.net(HFN)), powerful workflow and analytics software (PerTrac), and cloud-based analytics solutions (Fundspire) to offer clients deeper analytical capabilities with a more holistic view of non-traditional asset classes.
In 2015, with private capital playing a larger role in institutional portfolios, eVestment acquired TopQ — a tool that helped GPs and LPs model cash flows, assess performance, and communicate results with transparency. It marked a major step forward in private markets evaluation. Then, toward the end of this period, eVestment also acquired PPIQ—the precursor to Market Lens—broadening its intelligence capabilities to include public plan mandates.
2017
A New Chapter with Nasdaq
In 2017, eVestment joined the Nasdaq family—marking a pivotal moment in its evolution. The acquisition brought together Nasdaq’s global market infrastructure and technology expertise with eVestment’s institutional intelligence platform. This union accelerated innovation, expanded global reach, and laid the foundation for deeper data integrations and AI-powered workflows. It also reinforced a shared mission: to empower institutional investment teams with the tools and insights to make smarter, faster decisions.
The Nasdaq chapter signaled not just a change in ownership, but a bold step forward in shaping the future of investment intelligence.
2018
Understanding the Market in Real Time
With the launch of Market Lens, Nasdaq eVestment extended its product offerings even more. Clients could now access real-time intelligence on investor activity, mandate shifts, and consultant movements — adding a new layer of LP intelligence and competitive insight to their decision-making.
Today, Market Lens coverage has expanded to include public plans, private retirement plans, endowments, foundations, and insurance companies, with insights now able to be delivered via seamless integrations with Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau, and Salesforce.
2021
Partnering with Mercer
To support even deeper research capabilities, Nasdaq eVestment entered a strategic partnership with Mercer combining two powerful research ecosystems. The collaboration expanded global coverage and strengthened the insights available to the institutional investment community.
2023
Bringing Clarity to Private Markets
In 2023, Nasdaq eVestment launched its private markets data offering, transforming the platform into a truly multi-asset class solution. Now, institutional investors were enabled to evaluate private and public strategies side by side.
By integrating private markets intelligence into our core platform, we empowered asset owners, consultants, and managers to gain visibility into a historically opaque segment—supporting more holistic manager research, competitive benchmarking, and portfolio construction.
This launch also built on our earlier acquisition of TopQ in 2015, which had laid the foundation for our alternatives data strategy. Today, our private markets coverage is a critical pillar of our mission to simplify complexity and deliver actionable intelligence across the full spectrum of institutional investing.
2024
A Smarter Way to Compare
In 2024, eVestment launched Peer Benchmarking, giving asset owners the ability to evaluate their investment approach against relevant peer groups with transparent data — not just broad universes. With access to insights across 20K+ institutional plans at a click, our goal was to empower asset owners across the globe to make smart investment decisions and confidently measure their performance against specific peer sets.
