Who Will Be the Next UK Conservative Party Leader?

Our EU referendum tracking poll was the only one that consistently called for a Brexit outcome from day one and we would like to not only thank those who participated but those who took the time to send their comments. It was those added insights that suggested the Leave side would walk through fire to vote and this was borne out by the result to Brexit.

Now the UK faces new uncertainties as the EU referendum outcome has left voids in leadership in both major political parties. In this regard, the key focus is on the battle for leadership of the Conservative party, which will be left with the daunting task of negotiating an exit from the EU.

In this regard we conducted a poll asking Who do you think will be the next Conservative Party leader.? We presented five choices, including other and as with all of our polls, it is the comments that give the added insight into what our participants are thinking.

The preliminary results of our ongoing poll

Boris Johnson 57%

Theresa May 18%

Michael Gove 4%

Other 21%

Case for Boris Johnson

If anybody other than BJ is elected or if the Leave conditions are not met in full due to members of parliament pressure then the next general election will see ukip either win or have a balance of power….

Boris Jonson and he alone has the credibility of British people to take the country foreward. There must be no other challenger to compensate for the excellent work of Boris Jonson as a London Mayor and as a top figure to influence

If the Conservative hierarchy try install anyone other than Boris Johnson as leader they'll have a fight on their hands! The leader must be someone who led from the front for Brexit.

I believe that Johnson (hopefully with Gove and Leadsom) would be the only team able to achieve what we need from Brexit

I think that the Team of Boris Johnson with Michael Gove (at his side in the Cabinet) is what this Country now needs to sort things out the way both sides would come to appreciate - Leavers & Remainers !!!

The case for Theresa May

Theresa May, while sounding a little "public school" or "toffee nosed" to some, is experienced and well respected in the Commons. She may not be Margaret Thatcher part two, but I would hope she might "mother" the nation through this difficult time.

I believe that Boris Johnson is too controversial whereas Theresa May stayed out of the politics of Brexit and is strong enough to stand up to the EU who have made it clear that their terms will be vindictive.

Although my preference would be Boris as he led the Brexit campaign. I believe Teresa May will be successful even though she distanced herself from both the remain and leave campaigns.

Although Boris is very popular, I think the Party will choose Teresa as Boris is too devisive a figure within the Parliamentary Party.

Other candidates

While we omitted several potential candidates, with hindsight we should have included some other names. One that came up several times was Andrea Leadsom. Liam Fox and Steven Crabb also mention but not as often. What was also mentioned numerous times was that the next leader should be from the Leave campaign.

Andrea Leadsom is the best candidate imo

One option would be Andrea Leadsom, but above all it should be somebody from the leave campaign.

I think Boris would do Britain proud, and feel he speaks the truth, perhaps with some exaggeration at times. Another option would be Andrea Leadsom, but above all it should be somebody from the leave campaign.

It must be someone on the leave side if we are to achieve a good deal.

Next PM has to be a brexit supporter

The new leader has got to be a person who has campaigned to leave the EU. It would be impossible for anyone who wanted to stay within the EU to do the job, and would betray the British electorate.

Johnson vs. May? Pros and Cons

Boris a bit too young and wet behind the ears to take over party leader at this delicate stage of the game. In years to come maybe...but not now

My answer is based on my thinking that Boris may have been a little too closely linked to all the misleading promises of the Leave campaign.

Personally I would prefer Liam Fox to Boris...But a lot of ordinary people take Boris for granted...It has got to be someone pro-Brexit so TM is out, But the Conservative insiders prefer someone else to Boris so I am open to the thought there might be a third candidate.

Will we be allowed to really leave the EU or will there be a fudge? i am still hoping. Boris has faults, but he has leadership ability and will have the support of Gove. I do not want Theresa May!
