Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

Con-way (CNW): Option volume 1,328 percent above average. Investors purchased 5,000 September 25 puts, looking for downside. CNW fell 5.81 percent to $23.94.

CB Richard Ellis Group (CBG): Option volume 1,014 percent above average. A short position in the September 20 puts was rolled to the September 15 strike as an investor adjusted to lower prices. CBG fell 8.65 percent to $14.68.

CNO Financial Group (CNO): Option volume 947 percent above average. A position in the August 6 calls was rolled to the September 5 strike. CNO fell 6.61 percent to $5.79.

Mini SPX Index (XSP): Option volume 508 percent above average. There was a surge of activity in the August 111 puts and August 112 puts. XSP fell 4.24 percent to $114.33.

Principal Financial Group (PFG): Option volume 463 percent above average. A block of 1,000 August 25 puts was sold for $2.75. PFG fell 4.83 percent to $22.64.

  • SPDR Barclays Capital High Yield Bond (JNK): Option volume 389 percent above average.
  • Stryker (SY): Option volume 372 percent above average.
