While Theresa May has only been in office a few days, we have seen a shift in our tracking poll that seems to be expressing some cautious optimism over the appointment as the new prime minister (see results below). This is in contrast to what was seen after Andrea Leadsom dropped out, opening the door for May to take the helm with many then expressing disappointment that a remain proponent had won the contest for Conservative party leader.
As with all of our polls, we ask for comments that are often more revealing than just the numbers. In this regard, we have gotten mixed feedback but more seem willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.
In our updated poll, we added questions about whether opinions have changed to add some further insight into what voters are thinking. As you can see by the results below, sentiment in our poll has reversed. Please note these are still preliminary results as the poll is still going on so feel free to voice your opinion. We will be posting your comments in our next article.
