Patrick Smurla’s Growth as a Returning Nasdaq Intern

Patrick Smurla

As the world transitions to a new normal, Nasdaq’s annual internship program is too. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have turned circumstance into a learning opportunity for interns joining us this year to participate in meaningful and long-term projects.

In the Nasdaq Futures Internship Program, we offer a variety of professional experiences for emerging talent through an immersive 10 to 12-week virtual internship program. From Stockholm to the U.S., meet a few of the bright minds joining us digitally from all around the world. They are playing integral, hands-on roles to help Nasdaq #RewriteTomorrow. Today, we speak with Patrick Smurla, Information Security Intern at Nasdaq.

Tell us a bit about your position and background.

I am a part of the Information Security team and will be working on projects that deal with vulnerability scanning. This is my second intern experience under this team, and I am excited to learn more from my team.

What is your favorite project you’ve worked on thus far, or one that you’re looking forward to?

I am excited to work on the vulnerability scanning project. I have not worked with this before, so I am excited to learn how this will all work and come together.

What about Nasdaq has stood out to you most, now that you are a part of the global team?

The thing that stood out the most is how welcoming everyone is here at NASDAQ and how we are getting to work on projects that will be benefitting everyone at the company.

How is this internship supporting your goals long-term?

This internship is allowing me to continue to expand my knowledge in different fields in order to find out what I want to do as a graduate.

What is your goal as a #NasdaqFam intern?

My goal is to complete a project that benefits not only me and my team but NASDAQ as a whole company.

What advice would you give to future Nasdaq interns?

Do not be afraid to ask questions and meet new people. The more you put into your internship, the more you are going to be able to take away and learn from it.
