Americans are Dumping Money Into Home Improvements

(New York)

The next step in automating the work force may be poised for a massive rollout. One of the areas where employment has been bolstered in the last few years, despite the fall in retail, has been warehouse jobs. Ecommerce has boosted warehouse employment, but those now look under threat as new robots that find find, pack, and ship goods, are near deployment. The job of picking things off shelves and putting them in boxes is called "picking" and is the biggest and most labor intensive aspect of ecommerce. Companies often see shortfalls in the area during rush periods like the holidays. Warehouse jobs have surged in the last few years, with total employment reaching almost 1m in the US alone.

FINSUM : This would be a big job-cutter for the US ecommerce and warehousing industries, but would likely boost company bottom lines.
