Credit: Shutterstock photoOn Thursday, MicrosoftMSFT acquired FieldOne Services, a cloud-based provider of field service and customer relationship management (CRM) software, located in Mahwah, NJ.
This announcement comes four months after the two companies signed a strategic alliance to combine Microsoft Dynamics CRM application with FieldOne's flagship suite, which comprises scheduling, routing and inventory.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Microsoft Dynamics
Microsoft Dynamics is a CRM software that assists organizations and businesses in handling their end-to-end business processes.
Dynamics also offers enterprise resource planning (ERP). Dynamics ERP consists of solutions for companies for handling financials, human resources, supply chain and operations.
With this acquisition, Microsoft will be able to add cloud-based field service management to Dynamics.
Microsoft, through the acquisition, will be able to offer complete customer support and business management solutions under the Dynamics segment. For many companies, offering high-quality customer support is vital for maintaining customer satisfaction and ensuring long-term business relationship.
According to Microsoft, "This is a unique and transformational point in time for these solutions as enterprises look to improve their responsiveness to customers with service in the field - taking service directly to the customer anytime a service cannot be managed by phone or other channels."
Looking Ahead
This acquisition pits Microsoft against ServiceMax, which is strongly related with Salesforce CRM . Oracle ORCL is another player to watch since it moved deeper into the market last year with the acquisition of TOA Technologies.
Microsoft stated that clients will be able to start using FieldOne's services immediately.
