At Nasdaq, our purpose is to advance economic progress for all. We power stronger economies, create more equitable opportunities, and contribute to a more sustainable world to help our communities, clients, employees and people of all backgrounds reach their full potential. This year, we celebrated our second annual Purpose Week, in which we highlighted those in our communities who are putting our purpose into action.
We spoke with Nasdaq Purpose Champion Ritchie Vicko, Lead Technical Account Manager at Nasdaq, about the work he has done with younger generations to help them reach their full potential.
Tell us about your role at Nasdaq.
As the Lead Technical Account Manager, I am fortunate enough to work with the Australian Security Exchange (ASX), a Nasdaq Financial Framework customer, acting as the interface between the customer and our development organizations. My daily work includes troubleshooting, investigating new business change requests, coordinating problem resolutions, and serving as a Project and Release Manager for delivery projects.
As a Nasdaq Purpose Champion, you’re a leader in giving back to the community. What motivates you to pay it forward?
I feel I have been very fortunate in my life, so I love helping others - especially the younger generations. A little effort can change a child’s life and being able to put a smile on a child’s face is so rewarding. I believe it is important for us all to be good Samaritans.
Can you tell us about your favorite volunteer experience you’ve had with and outside Nasdaq?
As part of Nasdaq’s Purpose, several of my colleagues and I mentored students. I was dedicated to this cause because I felt that I would have truly valued this opportunity if it had been provided to me growing up. One of my favorite volunteer experiences outside Nasdaq was a charity event many years ago when I managed musicians and did a musical pro bono fundraising concert in Tanzania to raise HIV awareness in the society and how to protect and get treatment.
What’s your definition of Purpose?
Giving back to the less fortunate. My personal motto is: Remember, we are all allies for each other in one way or another.
What are the keys to sharing and cultivating that Purpose with others?
Collaborating, staying positive and utilizing the natural-born philanthropic abilities we all possess.
Any advice for people looking to give back to their community? Tips on balancing that with work, family and friends?
Regardless of how busy you are, there is always something you can do. With just a little effort you can really make an impact on someone’s life. I encourage people to join a network because one of the great things about volunteering with a group of other people is that you can all collaborate.
