Manage Your Workload Successfully

Sometimes the amount of work that a small business owner has to do is overwhelming. If your business is not yet at the stage where you can afford to pay someone to carry out administrative tasks, you will find yourself performing all business functions on your own. Here are some of my tips for making this task as straightforward as possible:

Build lists: Whenever you need information in a hurry, you are almost guaranteed to be unable to find it! In future, try making lists of useful sources that you find when researching topics so that you can instantly access them again.

Storage: It is important to have a well-organised method of storing files so that you can find them with minimal effort. Make sure that your most important documents are well cared for by securing them in plastic sleeves to prevent damage.

Stay topical: If your industry relies on topical information from books or journals, make sure that you dispose of out-of-date or irrelevant data. If something is no longer of use to your business, it will only cause clutter or confusion.

Get organised: Office supplies are often bulky and take up a lot of space. You need to be ruthless when deciding what to keep. You should either remove from the office, or throw away entirely, everything that does not fit in a single filing cabinet.Destroy drafts: If you search through your paperwork, you will most likely be surprised at the number of draft copies that are still there. By getting rid of all drafts and only keeping final versions it will be far more manageable.

Go digital: The best way of making your workday more organised is to go digital wherever possible. Calendars, file storage and accounting are just some of the paper-intensive tasks which can be made easier by switching to online software applications.
