At the 2017 NIRI Annual Conference, Brad Stone, Editor for Global Technology at Bloomberg, talked about his new book The Upstarts: How Uber, Airbnb, and the Killer Companies of the New Silicon Valley Are Changing the World.
Stone explained, “We're going to see technology move from the home, into the car, into the workplace.” High profile technology companies like Uber, Lyft, and Airbnb have already proven their worth in Silicon Valley. As The Upstarts outlines, these are the companies that raised the most money and are now valued up in the stratosphere, but more importantly, they have overcome a trail of controversy and conflict in their journey to where they are today. Unlike the technology companies of the past, these organizations have had to interact with regulators and politicians and have had to fight incumbent industries in the streets.
