Largest option buying in equities so far

Nearing the halfway mark in today's session, here are the individual equity names with the most call and put buying on optionMONSTER's ActionTracker data system.

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ): More than 9,000 January 25 calls were purchased for $4.30 to $4.40, but volume was below open interest in the strike. That suggests investors were closing covered-call positions in the stock. HPQ is down 5.32 percent to $27.40.

Oracle (ORCL): A block of 36,000 April 30 calls were sold for $0.55 and 18,000 April 27 puts were bought for $0.63 as an investor positioned for downside in the software maker. ORCL rose 0.39 percent to $28.66.

Whiting Petroleum (WLL): More than 10,000 March 57.50 calls were bought for $2.75 and $2.80, but volume was below open interest in the strike. WLL rose 4.92 percent to $59.34.

Yahoo (YHOO): An investor bought 6,800 April 12 puts for $0.09 and sold an equal number of April 14 calls for $1, looking for downside in the stock. YHOO rose 0.97 percent to $14.64.
