Credit: Intuitive Surgical, Inc.ISRG recently announced the receipt of FDA approval for its da Vinci Xi Single-Site instruments and accessories.
The Single-Site technology helps surgeons operate through a single incision in the patient's umbilicus during cholecystectomy, benign hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy procedures. This in turn will lead to an almost scar-less surgery.
The Single-Site technology recieved FDA approval way back in 2011 and since then, the robotic-assisted single-port platform has been performing well in terms of business. The new approval paves the way for a better version of the system, which allows superior vision, hassle-free setup and greater range of motion.
We believe the new products will help Intuitive Surgical gain better market traction, given the current demand for robotic surgeries. We are also upbeat about an expanding product portfolio, which is expected to bode well for the top line.
Intuitive Surgical recently announced that the company has received FDA approval for its da Vinci Xi EndoWrist Stapler 30 (30mm) instruments and reloads, which will offer 30mm stapling options for the da Vinci Xi Surgical System.
The new approval for curved and straight tip instruments and four reloads will significantly expand the company's portfolio of EndoWrist Stapler. The Stapler 30 Curved-Tip instrument can be used for General Surgery, Thoracic, Gynecologic and Urologic surgery. The new product assists the surgical procedures by allowing superior placement and visualization around tenuous vasculature.
In January, Intuitive Surgical and Trumpf Medical - a division of Hill-Rom Holdings (HRC) - announced FDA clearance for the former's Integrated Table Motion for the da Vinci Xi Surgical System in the U.S.
Integrated Table Motion incorporates Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci Xi and Trumpf Medical's TruSystem 7000dV. While da Vinci Xi is a robotic aided surgical system, TruSystem 7000dV is a sophisticated operating table. The combination is expected to help surgeons and anesthesiologists make essential table adjustments in order to execute surgeries in an efficient manner.
Intuitive Surgical also added 45 millimeter Xi stapler to its product portfolio in the first quarter of 2015, while Harmonic Curved Shears and a second set of instruments were introduced in the second quarter.
