Chipmaker Intel CorporationINTC has collaborated with eASIC Corporation, the maker of programmable application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), to create custom Xeon CPU products, in a bid to meet the increasing demand for customized chips by cloud service providers.

eASIC Corporation is a privately held semiconductor company based in Santa Clara, CA. It provides the eASIC solution, which enables companies to make cost-efficient custom integrated circuits (ICs) with deployment time advantages. This helps to comply with customers' hardware and software systems.

The eASIC solution comprises the company's eASIC platform, which integrates pre-defined and reusable base array and customizable single-mask layer, its easicopy ASICs, standard ASICs and other design tools. eASIC's other customers include Seagate STX , Ericsson and Huawei.

With the partnership, Intel can speed up the performance of its chips by up to two times that of a field programmable gate array (FPGA) for huge workloads related to security and large data analytics and also make them more power efficient. It will also accelerate the time to market compared to traditional ASICs by nearly 50%.

Therefore, by incorporating the hardware accelerator solutions with the eASIC technology, Intel can offer much faster and more flexible systems for cloud customers. It will also help the chipmaker to improve performance, power and cost of its Xeon processors.

The cloud computing market is growing at an accelerating rate, thereby spurring the demand for customized chips that make an application or workload run faster. So the latest move will help Intel to meet the demand for its chips.
