Friday Sector Leaders: Financial, Materials

The best performing sector as of midday Friday is the Financial sector, up 2.1%. Within the sector, Humana Inc. (Symbol: HUM) and Extra Space Storage Inc (Symbol: EXR) are two of the day's stand-outs, showing a gain of 6.7% and 4.1%, respectively. Among financial ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLF), which is up 1.6% on the day, and up 30.43% year-to-date. Humana Inc., meanwhile, is down 44.48% year-to-date, and Extra Space Storage Inc, is down 3.53% year-to-date.

The next best performing sector is the Materials sector, higher by 1.7%. Among large Materials stocks, FMC Corp. (Symbol: FMC) and Newmont Corp (Symbol: NEM) are the most notable, showing a gain of 5.5% and 3.6%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLB), which is up 1.4% in midday trading, and up 1.54% on a year-to-date basis. FMC Corp., meanwhile, is down 17.18% year-to-date, and Newmont Corp, is down 4.94% year-to-date. Combined, FMC and NEM make up approximately 4.6% of the underlying holdings of XLB.
