In addition to BAC, Huntington Bancshares, PNC Financial, and St. Jude Medical announce results this morning. GOOG follows in the afternoon, along with IBM, American Express, Capital One Financial, SanDisk, and Kansas City Southern.
The economic headlines start early in the session with European inflation, which could affect the euro and energy prices. Weekly mortgage applications at 7 a.m. ET are the first item in the United States.
Housing starts and building permits for March are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET. Starts are expected to increase to 955,000 on an annualized basis from 907,000 the previous month. Economists see permits at 1 million, down from 1.02 million in February.
Industrial production at 9:15 a.m. ET is expected to grow 0.5 percent, down from 0.6 percent the previous month.
Crude-oil inventories follow at 10:30 a.m. ET, which could sway trading in energy stocks.
The Federal Reserve releases its Beige Book survey of economic conditions at 2 p.m. ET.
