Earnings reports are the only events scheduled for today, and next week's calendar will be relatively quiet as well.

Darden Restaurants and Tiffany announce quarterly results before this morning's opening bell.

Next week, flash manufacturing numbers will be released for Europe and China early Monday. The Chicago Federal Reserve's regional activity index follows later in the morning.

Tuesday brings Germany's Ifo business-climate index, the Case-Shiller house-price index, new-home sales, and the Richmond Fed's survey. Carnival and Walgreen announce numbers as well.

Durable goods and Paychex earnings are the only items on Wednesday.

Thursday is the busiest session of the week, with initial jobless claims, revised fourth-quarter economic growth, pending home sales, and the Kansas City Fed's regional survey. Quarterly results will be released by Accenture, Conn's, GameStop, and RedHat.

Friday's main events are personal income and spending, plus earnings releases by BlackBerry and Finish Line.
