Credit card use in 2013 for small businesses was up, owners reported to the National Small Business Association.

In its 2013 Year-End Economic Report , the association's survey found credit cards were used for financing in 2013 by 33 percent of those polled, up from 31 percent in 2012.

In the study, 41 percent of small-business owners polled said bank loans were their leading type of financing used in 2013, down from 45 percent in 2012. The 2013 bank-loan numbers included large banks, which made up 20 percent of financing used; community banks at 19 percent; and credit unions at 3 percent.

The online poll was conducted from Jan. 6-24, 2014, and included 1,395 small-business owners. Both members and nonmembers of the group participated, and they came from multiple states and business sectors.
