Amma Anaman
Vice President and Senior Counsel, American Express
Amma is Vice President and Senior Counsel at American Express. Amma is lead counsel for Corporate Sustainability and ESG Reporting globally, provides counsel and strategic support to the American Express Foundation, and advises on corporate governance matters, disclosure controls and procedures, and securities laws.
Prior to joining American Express, at Nasdaq, Amma advised current and prospective Nasdaq-listed companies on Nasdaq’s listing rules and corporate governance standards, supports Nasdaq’s public policy initiatives, and is Corporate Secretary for the Nasdaq Foundation, whose mission is to advance diversity in investor engagement. Amma was part of the women-led team that formulated Nasdaq’s board diversity proposal, advising the team on legal strategy, rule language and media relations.
Prior to joining Nasdaq in 2018, Amma was in private practice at the New York offices of Sullivan & Cromwell and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt where she advised public and private companies on corporate governance matters, securities laws and cross-border equity and debt offerings. She also practiced at the Baltimore office of Miles & Stockbridge, where she advised companies on SEC reporting obligations and M&A transactions.
Amma received her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto and her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan.
