Early Friday morning, Okta (NASDAQ: OKTA) stock looked set for another week of double-digit gains. After cruising 10% higher in the previous stretch, the shares were up by almost 14% week to date in the hours before Friday market open, according to data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Agents of change

On Monday, Okta announced that it is collaborating with a large group of tech companies to establish the Blueprint Alliance. This is a cross-industry initiative aimed at establishing a unified system for securing artificial intelligence (AI) agents.

The founding member lineup of Blueprint reads like a who's who not only of the cybersecurity sector and AI companies but also of the broader tech industry. In addition to Okta, CrowdStrike is participating, as is Alphabet's Google Cloud, and Salesforce, among other luminaries.

In the announcement, Okta senior vice president of ecosystem Steven Tamm was quoted as saying that "The blueprint started because our customers needed a consistent architecture for securing agents, one that governs identity, access, and execution across the entire stack without shutting down the autonomy that makes agents useful."

Group effort

While it remains to be seen how the Alliance works in practice, in theory, it's a potential winner for the companies involved. Working within a unified framework should strengthen the security of agentic AI regimes and make them less daunting for clients, ideally leading to greater take-up. I'm not surprised Okta's shares were moving higher following the news.
