ONWARD Medical Marks First Implant In EIGER Study Of ARC-IM System

(RTTNews) - ONWARD Medical N.V. (ONWRF) has announced the first implant in its new EIGER clinical feasibility study evaluating the investigational ARC-IM System designed to restore mobility in people with subacute (chronic spinal cord injury).

The study marks a significant milestone in advancing neuromodulation therapies aimed at improving movement, function, and independence for patients living with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI).

The EIGER study will assess the safety and preliminary effectiveness of the ARC-IM System in supporting recovery of standing and walking. Up to 12 participants will be enrolled across two cohorts: individuals with chronic SCI, defined as injuries sustained more than one year before enrolment.

The first procedure was performed at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne, Switzerland, under the direction of Dr. Jocelyne Bloch, Chief of Neurosurgery at CHUV. The study is also being conducted at the Schweizer Paraplegiker-Zentrum (SPZ) in Nottwil and is supported by a grant from Innosuisse.

Dave Marver, CEO of ONWARD Medical, stated, "The EIGER study is an important next step in our drive to restore mobility after spinal cord injury. We intend for this study to inform the design of a pivotal study that will enable us to bring this important new therapy to market for the benefit of those with SCI and other movement disabilities."

The ARC-IM System comprises the implanted ONWARD Neurostimulator (IPG) and the ARC-IM Lumbar Lead, designed to precisely activate spinal circuits involved in lower-limb and trunk movement. Beyond mobility, ONWARD is developing the ARC-IM platform for multiple indications, including blood pressure instability after SCI, currently being evaluated in the Empower BP global pivotal study, and potential applications in adjacent movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease.

ONWRF has traded between EUR 2.26 and EUR 5.56 over the past year. The stock is currently trading at EUR 2.49, up 2.67%.
