Kailera Presents Phase 1 Data For Ribupatide In Weight Management; Stock Down

(RTTNews) - Kailera Therapeutics Inc. (KLRA), a clinical-stage biotechnology company, on Thursday reported promising results from the Phase 1 trial for GLP-1/GIP antagonist Ribupatide, developed for treating obesity. The data were presented at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).

Ribupatide is a GLP-1/GIP receptor dual agonist peptide formulated as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection or once-daily oral pill for treating obese or overweight patients. The drug has been assessed through clinical trials on over 3000 patients in China by Hengrui, which originally developed the drug. Kailera licensed ribupatide in May 2024, securing global development and commercialization rights outside Greater China.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 1 study evaluated the safety, tolerability, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the drug in adults with high body-mass indices (BMIs). The 51 enrolled patients received the drug over three, 29-day treatment periods wherein ribupatide was administered at different injection sites.

Kailera also reported on a Phase 1 trial assessing HRS-4729, a GLP-1/GIP/glucagon triple-receptor agonist with active control ribupatide. In the multiple ascending dose (MAD) portion, participants were administered 4mg, 8mg, or 12mg of HRS-4729 with 4mg ribupatide over 12 weeks.

By Week 12, participants exhibited a mean weight loss of 16% from baseline, and a 67.3% mean reduction in liver fat content. All treatment-associated adverse events (TAEs) were mild or gastrointestinal-related.

Ribupatide alone demonstrated a 16.7% weight loss in dosed patients, with a 38.4% reduction in liver fat content.

Kailera intends to begin a global Phase 1 study outside China, with results expected in 2027.

KLRA is currently trading at $10.83, down 5.16%.
