Intuitive Reports Positive Meta Analysis Data For Da Vinci Robotic Surgery

(RTTNews) - Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISRG), a robotic surgery company, on Tuesday announced positive data from a comparative meta-analysis validating the da Vinci system against traditional surgical methods.

The study analysed data from over 14 million da Vinci, laproscopic, and open surgery procedures in patients with 13 types of benign tumors. These included the excision of benign growths in gynaecology, urology, and hernia repairs. The published data used in the study spanned 14 years, 32 countries, and about 366 clinical trials. The results linked da Vinci robotic surgery to improved perioperative outcomes, yielding statistically significant improvements.

When compared to laproscopic surgeries, procedures carried out using da Vinci systems had a 54% lower chance of being converted to an open surgery, in case of an urgent intervention. Though procedure times were increased by 24 minutes, patients also exhibited a 13% lower chance for requiring a blood transfusion.

Recovery periods were reduced, as patients reported lesser postoperative pain and minimal dependence on pain medications.

In comparison to open surgical procedures, surgeries utilising da Vinci were 69% less dependent on required blood transfusions. Patients also showed a 46% less chance of developing a postoperative infection within 30 days, and a 60% lower chance of a surgical site infection.

Though the robotic procedure took approximately 69 minutes more, the length of hospital stays decreased by 2 days. Patients demonstrated lower odds of intraoperative complications, readmission and 30-day mortality, and a 37% lower dependence on pain medications.

The company estimates that over 21 million minimally invasive surgeries have been carried out worldwide using da Vinci, with 3.1 million procedures logged in 2025 alone.

ISRG closed Tuesday at $350.16, down 4.51%. In the pre-market, shares are trading at $351.50, up 0.38%.
