Hogs Rally to Start the Week

Lean hog futures were 82 cents to $2.10 higher across most contracts, with the October contract the lone holdout. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $76.81 on Monday afternoon, down 42 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was back down 51 cents on October 1 at $80.20. 

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up $1.53 in the Monday PM report, $86.01. The butt and ham primals were the only reported lower. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was estimated at 493,000 head. That was 9,000 head above last Monday and 1,816 head larger than the same Monday last year.

Oct 26 Hogs  closed at $77.850, down $0.025,

Dec 26 Hogs  closed at $70.950, up $0.825

Feb 27 Hogs  closed at $72.700, up $1.375,
