Hogs Firming into the Weekend

Lean hog futures are showing 70 to 90 cent gains in most front months on Friday. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $94.58 in the Friday AM report, up $1.83 from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another 24 cents on August 19 at $93.72.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up $3.49 in the Friday morning report, at $99.98. All primals were reported higher. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday at 451,000 head, with the weekly total at 1.882 million head. That is 14,000 head above the previous week and down 25,769 head from the same week last year.

Oct 26 Hogs  are at $80.925, up $0.700,

Dec 26 Hogs  are at $71.625, up $0.875

Feb 27 Hogs are at $74.550, up $0.725,
