BridgeBio Doses First Participation In ASCENT-ATTR Study
(RTTNews) - BridgeBio Pharma, Inc. (BBIO) announced that the first participant has been dosed in ASCEND-ATTR, a Phase 3b/4 study designed to evaluate the long-term effects of Acoramidis in patients with transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM).
The trial builds on earlier findings from the ATTRibute-CM CMR substudy, which suggested Acoramidis may not only slow disease progression but also improve cardiac structure and function, with evidence of amyloid regression in some patients.
Acoramidis is a selective, orally administered small molecules that stabilizes transthyretin (TTR) with near-complete (=90%) effectiveness. By preventing destabilization of the protein, the therapy may allow the body's natural clearance mechanisms to reduce amyloid deposits, enabling cardiac remodeling and functional recovery.
ASCENT-ATTR is a single-arm, open-label study enrolling about 150 participants with ATTR-CM. Patients will undergo annual cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography over 36 months. The primary endpoint is improvement in left ventricular systolic function at Month 36, with secondary measures including cardiac structure, amyloid burden, biomarkers, and imaging assessments at Month 12 and 24.
ATTR-CM is a progressive and often fatal condition caused by amyloid deposits in the heart muscle. Current therapies aim to slow progression, but BridgeBio's program is designed to test whether long-term Acoramidis treatment can actively reverse disease damage and restore heart health.
BBIO has traded between $48.78 and $93.42 over the past year. The stock is currently trading at $80.24, down 0.20%.
