The petition for a second EU referendum is getting a lot of press but as one of the respondents to our latest poll said, “BOLLOCKS there would be a civil war if that happened, there's been enough bad feeling as it is.” This sums up the feeling we are getting from comments submitted to our latest poll asking the question, Do you believe there should be a second referendum for the UK to leave the EU?
The preliminary results show an overwhelming percentage, 91% saying no, which is not surprising as most of those responding were participants in our Brexit tracking poll where there was an strong expectation expressed for the Leave side. One common theme in many of the comments (see below) is that this was a democratic vote and the result should therefore be respected. I have not addressed the questions being raised over the source of many of those signing on to the petition, which has raised questions over its credibility. I just saw a headline that the petition is being investigated for fraud. As one of our participants said, This is getting ridiculous. People openly saying they have made fraudulent signings and even hacked into the 2nd referendum petition
In American football, we would call this a “Hail Mary” pass. What that means is a desperation throw of the football from a long distance as time expires in hope that someone on your team makes a miraculous catch in the end zone to win the game. Odds are very low of success as is this petition.
What is most revealing in our polls, as was the case with the EU referendum, are the comments we receive as they give insights beyond just the numbers. It was the passion and convictions expressed in our polls by the Leave side that suggested a strong motivation to vote and this proved to be the only set of polls that consistently called for a Brexit outcome.
In our current poll that already has close to 700 participating and is still going on, the number comments we received has been overwhelming. Space only permits posting some of the comments but you will get a feeling from I show below that there is little justification for a second referendum. In addition, as our poll is still going on, feel free to post your opinion and include your comments

Respect our Democracy:
ONCE IN A LIFETIME VOTE REGARDLESS OF THE RESULT ,WE VOTED WE LEAVE BY DEMOCRATIC VOTING OF THE UK .
They had their chance. Once is enough. If Brexit lost do you think England would have a referendum for an enxit
We have had a referendum, everyone had the opportunity to vote, there were no stipulations as to voter percentages etc. If the vote had been to remain which thank God it's not would there have been the same nonsense I think not.
This is ridiculous. Leave won. This is a democracy. The remain are bad losers. You don't call another general election if you don't like the result. So no second referendum. Absolutely no!
This referendum was being prepared for months and months. People had plenty of time to research the issues involved it and the arguments for and against a Brexit. The Remain Campaign had all the money thrown its way plus a whole host of influential celebrities. They also had extra time given to them for people to register who had not already done so. This was a democratic procedure and the Leave side had more than a million votes in excess of Remain. People have to come to terms with it and unite to make this brave decision work.
The referendum took place according to the rules. The leave outcome is definitive. This petition is sour grapes from the losing side. Both sides must now accept the result and work together to move the UK forward to the future. This petition will just fall by the wayside.
The petition in question is legally flawed - asking to change the rules of the game retrospectively. A majority voted for BREXIT. That's democracy in action. Respect it!
Brexit it is.... the British people have spoken. It's called democracy.
The nation has already voted. You cannot have the country vote again, so that the vote changes to suit certain people.
This happed in Ireland and Denmark when the vote did not go the way the establishment wanted. It MUST NOT happen in the UK. If it does democracy is dead!
We are supposed to live in a democracy, it was a fair vote for all who wished to take part. Instead of acting like children who can't get their own way we should all now pull together to make it work our children and the future of this great country, if it had been remain we would have had to accept it.
If the Remainers had shown passion before the vote I would have understood their reaction. Although this country will not have an easy ride I feel very sure that we will be far better off in the not too distant future. .I voted in 1975 for a Common Market and not for the monster that the EU has become. Peace be with you.
To hold a second referendum would act to belittle democracy and show the fears of many, the establishment would refuse to listen to the people, to be grounded in fact. To do so would permanently tarnish the value of democracy inside the UK
17 million people have voted to LEAVE. That should be respected. To have another referendum would be anti -democratic. If necessary we should have a petition requesting parliament to honor the first referendum
PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG. I am an old man and I always thought that democracy’s great strength was that there was no fairer way of making a decision when agreement could not be found. The democratic process has been completed and the majority have spoken. The people of Scotland and the ones here who have not got what they personally wanted should reflect on whether they believe in a democratic system or not. No there should not be another vote and I never thought I would ever be ashamed of the people of the uk.
A second referendum would be anti-democratic whether you voted remain or leave. The definition of democracy does not include; to vote until you get the answer you want.
The people have already voted 45 million were eligible , 72% did. A petition by 2 million remain voters to revote would make a mockery of democracy. I did not vote for the Conservatives in the last election and was dismayed by that decision, but I bowed to the majority and the will of the people. It'd time others were as gracious.
The first referendum is only advisory and not legally binding. What’s the point of a second one which will be the same.
It is not, as someone has already said ,'a best of 3', it is a one vote, one person, one time Referendum - and that's it folks!
This should give you a feeling for what the Leave side thinks of the petition and makes a case for respecting a democratic vote.
