BFGIX Gains as SpaceX Becomes a Major Portfolio Driver

Baron Focused Growth Fund BFGIX has delivered a solid rebound since its March 31, 2026, portfolio disclosure revealed a sizable position in SpaceX. The fund’s NAV was $57.45 at the end of March and climbed to $65.82 by Aug. 12, representing a gain of about 14.6%. SpaceX has been a major contributor to that performance. On March 31, SpaceX represented 21.2% of BFGIX’s assets, making it by far the fund’s largest disclosed position. By June 30, its weight had risen to 27.6%.

BFGIX gained 13.3% in the second quarter, although it trailed the Russell 2500 Growth Index’s 24% advance. The fund subsequently faced some volatility, with its NAV falling to $60.55 by July 27 before recovering to $65.82 by Aug. 12. Its year-to-date return is 8.9%, highlighting how significantly the SpaceX position helped offset weakness elsewhere in the portfolio.

Overall, BFGIX’s performance since disclosing its SpaceX exposure underscores the growing importance of the private aerospace company to the fund’s returns. With SpaceX representing nearly a third of its assets at the latest disclosed quarter-end, future movements in its valuation could remain an important influence on BFGIX.
