Agilent Launches FDA-Cleared S540MD Slide Scanner System In U.S.

(RTTNews) - Agilent Technologies Inc. (A), a provider of analytical and clinical laboratory technologies, announced the U.S. launch of its Agilent S540MD Slide Scanner System following FDA clearance, expanding its digital pathology portfolio for clinical laboratories.

The whole slide imaging (WSI) scanner is designed to help pathology laboratories manage increasing sample volumes and adopt digital and AI-enabled workflows while integrating scanning technology into existing operations.

The S540MD can accommodate up to 540 slides with continuous loading and standard rack compatibility.

It features automated scanning modes and advanced tissue detection to support high-throughput digitization of glass slides and scalable digital pathology workflows.

The system is the Agilent-branded version of the Hamamatsu NanoZoomer S540MD Slide Scanner System.

Agilent said the launch is intended to help laboratories streamline diagnostic processes, improve operational efficiency and prepare for the growing adoption of AI-powered pathology workflows.

The S540MD was previously launched in select European markets in January 2026 and is now available across the U.S. and multiple European markets, including Germany, the U.K., France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

The launch expands Agilent's digital pathology offering as laboratories increasingly seek high-throughput scanning solutions to support clinical diagnostics and digital transformation.
