Aethlon Posts Narrower Q1 Loss, Stock Jumps

(RTTNews) - Aethlon Medical, Inc. (AEMD), a clinical-stage medtech company, recently reported a narrower net loss for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, due to lower operating expenses and higher interest income, compared to the prior year.

Aethlon is developing Hemopurifier, an investigational blood purification system designed to remove disease-associated particles, including extracellular vesicles and enveloped viruses, from the bloodstream.

The hemopurifier has received U.S. FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for use in individuals with advanced or metastatic cancer who are unresponsive or intolerant to standard-of-care therapy, as well as for life-threatening viral infections without approved treatments.

First Quarter Highlights

For the first quarter, loss attributable to common stockholders marginally narrowed by 12% to $1.55 million from $1.76 million in the prior-year. On a per share basis, loss was $4.02 compared to $42.42 in the corresponding quarter.

Operating expenses in the first quarter was $1.58 million, while the same quarter last year had recorded an expense of $1.79 million.

Interest income increased to $31.29 million from $30.53 million a year ago.

Cash and cash equivalents as of June 30, 2026, amounted to $4.93 million.

Clinical Updates

Aethlon dosed the first participant in the third and final cohort of its Phase 1 oncology study in Australia. Preliminary observations from the first two cohorts showed decreases in tumor-derived extracellular vesicles and microRNAs associated with cancer progression, along with changes in immune function.

Separately, a manuscript on extracellular vesicles in Long COVID was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. The study found that extracellular vesicles isolated from Long COVID plasma samples bind to the proprietary GNA affinity resin used in the hemopurifier.

AEMD closed Thursday's trade at $2.17, down 4.82%. In the pre-market trade, the stock is up 37.79% at $2.99.
