Stock Traders Shrug Off Paris, Pick Up Bargains
Multiple terrorist attacks hit Paris last Friday evening. Intense French bombing of ISIL targets followed on the weekend. One could expect the worst. The open to this week's stock trading had red spilled all over it.
However, note the mostly positive green arrow start on major share indexes. A multi-day stock sell-off put too many stock bargains in play. BUY signal technical indicators flicker on institutional trader's screens.
Global stock traders appeared to ignore the terrorists… for now.
The week has four more days to go. Brace for more action flowing from Paris.
On Tuesday, Germany's ZEW survey on economic sentiment and current conditions come out. These two forward-looking indicators might show German optimism bottomed at a 12-month low. The VW scandal and the China slowdown may no longer depress that nation's business sentiment.
If you are looking for a good German stock, look into Allianz AG ( ASZEY ), the multi-line insurance provider. This large-cap has been upgraded to a Zack Rank #1 (Strong Buy) and has an A on Zacks Value.
On Wednesday, prepare for another GDP face-plant by Brazil. Their economists look for Brazil's GDP decline to come in at -6.1% y/y, much worse than a prior -4.7% y/y rate.
Mexico's latest GDP growth rate comes out on Friday. GDP growth looks to be climbing from +2.4% to +2.6% y/y.
It's a tale of two Latin giants, heading in different directions.
For a good Mexican stock, I would look at Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico ( PAC ). This stock upgraded to a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). However, it gets an F on Zacks Value. Wait for a pullback to buy.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico was constituted as part of the process to opening private investment in the Mexican airport system.
Want one very obvious difference between Brazil and Mexico?
Mexico is heading towards more private companies and private investment. Brazil is growing its top-heavy socialist spending. Grupo Aeuroportuario is a classic Mexican example.
This country and Indonesia are the only two major countries in the world with stronger economies now versus before the 2008 global financial crisis.
Argentina is about to vote in a new Prime Minister. From the look of things, the Argentines are about to join the Mexicans in validating orthodox management of their economy. It's about time for this once-wealthy country.
On Thursday, the Bank of Japan (BoJ) announces it latest monetary policy and Governor Kuroda holds a press conference.
If you seek a good Japanese stock, look at Sony Corp. ( SNE ). This stock is back to a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) again and has an A on Zacks Value.
