The week ahead in Asia / Pacific - the key releases coming up

Plenty on the agenda this week around the globe, here's the major FX-relevant events in Asia / Pacific

Tuesday November 1, 2016

Australia, Reserve Bank of Australia meeting announcement, due at 0330GMT

  • I'll have (much) more on this to come, but in brief the consensus expectation is for an 'on hold' decision from the bank, though the chance of a cut is not negligible by any means.

Japan, Bank of Japan meeting announcement, due 0230-0330GMT or thereabouts (there is no firmly scheduled time for a BOJ announcement)

  • No change to policy is expected, no further easing at this stage. There may be minor changes to how the bank implements policy. I'll have more to come on the BOJ
  • Outlook update and a press conference (the presser will later in the day)

China - October official Manufacturing PMI (& non-manufacturing). Also the non-official but closely watched Caixin Manufacturing PMI

  • Official manufacturing PMI for October, expected 50.3, prior 50.4
  • Official non-manufacturing PMI, prior 53.7
  • Caixin manufacturing PMI, expected 50.1, prior 50.1

Global Dairy Trade auction (during UK time Tuesday) - will impact on NZD

Wednesday November 2

Australia - Building approvals for September

  • expected -3.0% m/m, prior -1.8%
  • expected +2.1% y/y, prior +10.1%

New Zealand - Q3 employment data

New Zealand - RBNZ inflation expectations data

Friday November 4

Australia - Retail sales for September

  • expected +0.4% m/m, prior +0.4%
  • Also, Q3 retail sales excluding inflation, expected +0.2%, prior +0.4%
