Wednesday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Consumer Products

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Wednesday, shares of Utilities companies are underperforming other sectors, higher by 0.1%. Within that group, PG&E Corp (Symbol: PCG) and NiSource Inc. (Symbol: NI) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 1.6% and 0.9%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is down 0.1% on the day, and up 1.14% year-to-date. PG&E Corp , meanwhile, is down 49.21% year-to-date, and NiSource Inc. , is down 0.86% year-to-date. Combined, PCG and NI make up approximately 3.1% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Consumer Products sector, higher by 1.9%. Among large Consumer Products stocks, Campbell Soup Co (Symbol: CPB) and Mondelez International Inc (Symbol: MDLZ) are the most notable, showing a loss of 0.9% and 0.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Consumer Products stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Goods ETF ( IYK ), which is up 1.4% in midday trading, and down 15.79% on a year-to-date basis. Campbell Soup Co, meanwhile, is down 28.23% year-to-date, and Mondelez International Inc, is down 6.26% year-to-date. Combined, CPB and MDLZ make up approximately 3.5% of the underlying holdings of IYK.
