Wednesday Sector Laggards: Energy, Services

In afternoon trading on Wednesday, Energy stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 1.4% loss. Within that group, Baker Hughes Inc. (Symbol: BHI) and Chesapeake Energy Corp. (Symbol: CHK) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 5.9% and 5.8%, respectively. Among energy ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is down 1.5% on the day, and down 9.30% year-to-date. Baker Hughes Inc., meanwhile, is down 7.72% year-to-date, and Chesapeake Energy Corp., is down 62.47% year-to-date. Combined, BHI and CHK make up approximately 2.6% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, showing a 0.8% loss. Among large Services stocks, Viacom Inc (Symbol: VIAB) and Time Warner Inc (Symbol: TWX) are the most notable, showing a loss of 7.4% and 7.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF ( IYC ), which is down 0.7% in midday trading, and up 8.47% on a year-to-date basis. Viacom Inc, meanwhile, is down 35.36% year-to-date, and Time Warner Inc, is down 14.68% year-to-date. Combined, VIAB and TWX make up approximately 2.6% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
