Walmart (WMT) Gains But Lags Market: What You Should Know

In the latest trading session, Walmart (WMT) closed at $104.32, marking a +0.96% move from the previous day. This change lagged the S&P 500's 2.12% gain on the day. Elsewhere, the Dow gained 2.13%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq added 2.64%.

Coming into today, shares of the world's largest retailer had gained 6.44% in the past month. In that same time, the Retail-Wholesale sector lost 2.5%, while the S&P 500 lost 4.4%.

Investors will be hoping for strength from WMT as it approaches its next earnings release, which is expected to be November 15, 2018. The company is expected to report EPS of $1.02, up 2% from the prior-year quarter. Meanwhile, our latest consensus estimate is calling for revenue of $124.83 billion, up 1.34% from the prior-year quarter.
