Wall Street gave back gains late in the session, with the Nasdaq Composite trying to hang on for its eighth straight day of gains, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 pushed further into the red amid losses in energy and financials.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq was faltering under weakness in Tesla ( TSLA ) after reports about a regulatory probe into the electric carmaker wiped off earlier gains. The S&P's sectors were mixed with another weak day, with oil prices weighing on energy, while telecoms were up more than 1% late in the day.
