The benchmark US stock indexes ended the day mixed to higher, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average pulling back from the day's high but still closing at the strongest since Jan. 5 amid a resurgent oil price while woes for Apple ( AAPL ) weighed on the Nasdaq. Smaller oil and gas operators saw sharp gains after the benchmarks West Texas Intermediate and Brent crude each added more than 5%. Rex Energy ( REXX ) soared 54% and Basic Energy Services ( BAS ) added 37%.
