US REIT & Asian Emerging Markets: Two ETFs Trading with Outsized Volume

In the last trading session, the U.S. stocks were in green, thanks to the lingering Fed-induced bounce that signaled a delayed Fed lift-off. Among the top ETFs, investors saw SPY gain about 0.5%, DIA add about.0.4% and QQQ move higher by about 0.4% on the day.

Two more specialized ETFs are worth noting in particular though as both saw trading volume that was far outside of normal. In fact, both these funds experienced volume levels that were more than double their average for the most recent trading session. This could make these ETFs ones to watch out for in the days ahead to see if this trend of extra interest continues:

FRI : Volume 5.09 times average

This U.S. REIT ETF was in focus yesterday as roughly 446,500 shares moved hands compared to an average of roughly 87,700 shares. We also saw some stock price movement as shares of FRI added over 0.7% yesterday.

The movement can largely be attributed to a drop in Treasury bond yields post somber economic data. This in turn brightened the appeal for rate-sensitive and high-dividend yielding investing instruments such as REITs like what we find in this ETF's portfolio.

The fund has a Zacks ETF Rank #3 (Hold). For the month, FRI is up over 5.1 %.

EEMA : Volume 3.61 times average

This Asia emerging market ETF was under the microscope yesterday as nearly 210,000 shares moved hands. This compares to an average trading day of 59,000 shares and came as EEMA returned 0.6% in the session.

Emerging market equities regained their lost ground thanks to the commodity market recovery in recent times on the weakening greenback. As the possibility of the early Fed rate hike has been put to rest, emerging market equities started healing on hot money inflows from the U.S. The fund has a Zacks ETF Rank #3. For the month, EEMA is up over 7%.
