U.S. new home sales fall unexpectedly in June

Forexpros - U.S. new home sales fell unexpectedly in June, official data showed on Tuesday.

In a report, the U.S. Census Bureau said new home sales declined to a seasonally adjusted 312,000 units in June, down from 315,000 units in May, whose figure was revised down from 319,000 units.

Analysts had expected the number of new home sales to rise to 320,000 units.

The median sales price of new houses sold in June was USD235,000, up from USD222,600 in the previous month, while the average sales price was USD269,000.

Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar was down against the euro, with EUR/USD gaining 0.6% to trade at 1.4465.

Meanwhile, U.S. equity markets were broadly lower after the open. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.75%, the S&P 500 index fell 0.55%, while the Nasdaq Composite index edged 0.15% lower.
