The April deficit is expected to narrow to -$41.0 billion (consensus range -$43.0 billion to -median -$38.6 billion) continuing the decrease seen in March. The U.S. trade deficit narrowed as expected to $40.4 billion in March, after popping to $41.9 (was $42.3) billion in February from $39.3 billion in January, $39.0 billion in December, and a $35.2 billion four-year deficit low in November. The trade deficit has narrowed sharply since recent-highs early in 2012, and has hovered close to levels seen in 2009.
