U.S. ECONOMICS: CPI Preview - Consensus Headline 0.1%, Core Rate Ex-Food and Energy 0.2%

The July consumer price index is expected to rise 0.1% (consensus range 0.0% to 0.2%), while the core index rises 0.2% (consensus range 0.1% to 0.3%). There has been a resilient round of July inflationary data, as weaker-than-expected trade prices revealed core price resilience, but oil and food price declines depressed the headlines. At the wholesale level, a 0.1% producer price index rise, with a 0.2% core price increase, slightly beat estimates thanks to a stronger-than-expected flat reading for July goods prices and a 0.1% price rise for services.
