December consumer confidence better than expectations
The US consumer confidence came in better than expectations at 96.5 vs 93.8 estimate. The prior month was revised higher to 92.6 from 90.4.
- The Present situation increased to 115.3 from 110.9 last month
- Consumer confidence expectations also rose to 83.9 from 80.4 in November.
The index increase is being attributed to stronger employment and cheaper fuel costs. Faster growth in wages would be a positive for future confidence.
The forecast range was 88.5 to 97.3.
The high for year was at 102.60 in September. The low was 91.0 in July.
