Update: Top unusual option activity

As of today's market close, here are the top 10 names showing unusual option activity on tradeMONSTER's LiveAction data system.

iShares Dow Jones Select Dividend Index (DVY): Option volume 7,798 percent above average. An investor bought 30,000 March 50 calls, looking for a bounce. DVY fell 3.94 percent to $48.25.

Vanguard REIT (VNQ): Option volume 4,239 percent above average. An investor bought 4,475 August 56 calls for $1.60 and sold 8,950 August 52 puts for $0.80, looking for a bounce. VNQ fell 4.89 percent to $54.90.

National Semiconductor (NSM): Option volume 4,195 percent above average. Some 11,000 September 24 calls were purchased, mostly for $0.85, as an investor looked for upside. NSM fell 0.65 percent to $24.47.

NiSource (NI): Option volume 3,668 percent above average. Investors bought about 6,000 September 20 calls, positioning for a move higher. NI fell 4.46 percent to $19.69.

Mindray Medical International (MR): Option volume 2,390 percent above average. More than 4,400 August 25 calls were purchased, mostly for $1.80 and $2.30, as investors looked for upside. MR fell 6.23 percent to $24.52.

Rounding out the rest of the top 10 are:

  • CareFusion (CFN): Option volume 2,332 percent above average.
  • Chemtura (DVY): Option volume 1,909 percent above average.
  • Sensata Technologies (ST): Option volume 1,357 percent above average.
  • Dendreon (DNDN): Option volume 1,248 percent above average.
  • Gildan Activewear (GIL): Option volume 1,179 percent above average.
