UPDATE: Suncor CEO Rick George to Retire; Shares Down in TSX But Recoups Gains in U.S.

Suncor Energy (SU.TO) edged off less than 1% to $30.69 on the Toronto Stock Exchange, but is higher than today's $30.57 open, after reportedly announcing that its Chief Executive Rick George plans to retire from the company in May 2012, after more than two decades at helm of Canada's largest oil and gas company.

Reuters said George will be replaced by Steve Williams, who has been Suncor's chief operating officer since 2007.

SU shares, however, were recouping gains in the United States at $30.34.
