Tuesday Sector Leaders: Materials, Industrial

In afternoon trading on Tuesday, Materials stocks are the best performing sector, up 1.2%. Within that group, Albemarle Corp. (Symbol: ALB) and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold (Symbol: FCX) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 4.3% and 3.4%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs , one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is up 1.6% on the day, and up 0.30% year-to-date. Albemarle Corp., meanwhile, is down 21.35% year-to-date, and Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, is down 0.79% year-to-date. Combined, ALB and FCX make up approximately 5.6% of the underlying holdings of XLB.

The next best performing sector is the Industrial sector, higher by 0.5%. Among large Industrial stocks, Lam Research Corp (Symbol: LRCX) and W.W. Grainger Inc. (Symbol: GWW) are the most notable, showing a gain of 4.9% and 4.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Industrial stocks is the Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLI ), which is up 0.3% in midday trading, and up 0.83% on a year-to-date basis. Lam Research Corp, meanwhile, is up 12.95% year-to-date, and W.W. Grainger Inc. is up 15.45% year-to-date. GWW makes up approximately 0.7% of the underlying holdings of XLI.
