Tuesday Sector Leaders: Energy, Financial

Looking at the sectors faring best as of midday Tuesday, shares of Energy companies are outperforming other sectors, higher by 0.8%. Within that group, Cimarex Energy Co (Symbol: XEC) and Marathon Petroleum Corp. (Symbol: MPC) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 3.0% and 2.4%, respectively. Among energy ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is up 1.1% on the day, and up 6.98% year-to-date. Cimarex Energy Co, meanwhile, is down 19.58% year-to-date, and Marathon Petroleum Corp. is up 25.34% year-to-date. Combined, XEC and MPC make up approximately 3.3% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next best performing sector is the Financial sector, up 0.5%. Among large Financial stocks, Broadridge Financial Solutions (Symbol: BR) and S&P Global Inc (Symbol: SPGI) are the most notable, showing a gain of 9.8% and 2.1%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Financial stocks is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLF ), which is up 0.6% in midday trading, and up 2.74% on a year-to-date basis. Broadridge Financial Solutions, meanwhile, is up 41.68% year-to-date, and S&P Global Inc is up 20.27% year-to-date. SPGI makes up approximately 1.4% of the underlying holdings of XLF.
